Podia Review (2026): Simple Until the Email Meter Starts
Podia is the tidiest product in this comparison. Courses, coaching, webinars, community and checkout arrive already connected, the admin reads like a filing cabinet rather than a flight deck, and nothing about setting it up requires a tutorial.
It is also priced in a way that looks generous at the start and gets expensive from a direction most reviews do not look in. The transaction fee is the obvious target and it is not the real one.
The plans, as the page presents them
Podia's pricing page opens in its annual view, and that is worth knowing before you read a number off it:
- Mover — $42 a month, billed as $504 for the year. 5% transaction fee. 100 email subscribers, 50 products, 500 videos, 25 spaces.
- Shaker — $84 a month, $1,008 a year. 0% transaction fee. 500 email subscribers, 150 products, 1,000 videos, 100 spaces, 1 assistant.
- Earthquaker — $150 a month, $1,800 a year. 0% transaction fee. 1,000 email subscribers, unlimited products, videos, spaces and assistants.
Billed monthly, each of those is higher. Podia would not yield those figures to us on the day we checked, and rather than repeat a number from a third-party tracker we will say plainly that we do not have it. If you intend to pay monthly, read the toggle yourself before committing.
The transaction fee, and how to escape it
Mover takes 5% of each sale. Shaker and Earthquaker take nothing.
Shaker costs $42 a month more than Mover on annual billing. Removing a 5% fee is worth $42 a month once you are selling $840 a month. So: below $840 a month in sales, Mover plus the fee is cheaper; above it, Shaker is.
That is a clean, calculable decision, and it is the kind of pricing ladder this site approves of. You can see the trade, you can do the sum, and nothing is hidden. On a $500 sale on Mover, Podia takes $25.00, the processor takes $14.80, and $460.20 reaches you.
Credit where it is due: Podia's own pricing page states outright that Stripe or PayPal charge 2.9% plus 30 cents separately from Podia's fees. That is a disclosure Gumroad does not make and Kajabi makes only obliquely. It is one of the reasons Podia scores as well as it does here.
Podia: Mover or Shaker
Annual-billing prices per month. Crossover = extra subscription ÷ the fee it removes.
The email meter is the real constraint
Now the part that decides the grade. Podia includes 100 email subscribers on Mover, 500 on Shaker, 1,000 on Earthquaker. Beyond the included allowance, email is billed separately on a scale that climbs steeply with list size.
Think about what that means in practice. An audience is the asset that makes a course business work. Every sensible piece of advice about selling courses begins with "build a list". Podia's pricing structure charges you more, on a separate meter, precisely as you follow that advice — and the charge is not tied to how much you sell, only to how many people you can reach.
A creator on Mover with 3,000 subscribers and modest sales is in an awkward position: the plan that fits their revenue does not fit their list, and the upgrade that fits their list is sold on features they do not need.
This is not a hidden fee. It is stated. But it is the thing that most often makes Podia stop being the cheap option, and it is almost never the thing reviews warn about.
The product limits are unusually generous
Set against that, Mover's fifty products is a striking number. Teachable Starter allows five. Kajabi Basic allows five. If you sell a catalogue of small things — short workshops, templates, recorded sessions — Podia's entry plan accommodates a shape of business that most entry plans refuse.
Five hundred videos on Mover is likewise a real allowance rather than a token one, and video storage is a cost platforms usually ration hard.
What it is like to use
Coherent, in a way that is difficult to convey in a feature list. The distance between deciding to sell something and having a page that sells it is short. Coaching sessions, webinars and community spaces are first-class objects rather than bolted-on extras, which matters if your offering is not purely a recorded course.
What you give up is depth. The marketing automation is lighter than Kajabi's, the course-building tools are less granular than Thinkific's, and if you want sophisticated conditional logic in a sequence you will find the ceiling quickly.
Verdict
7.8, a B. Podia is the right answer more often than its market share suggests, and the wrong answer for one specific and common situation: a growing email list.
If your audience lives on a platform you do not email — a podcast, a YouTube channel, a community you already run elsewhere — Podia's meter never bites and it is arguably the best-value product here. If your plan is to build an email list and sell to it, price the meter before you price the plan. Podia rates third on the best online course platforms shortlist for exactly that reason; the platform that charges nothing extra for a bigger audience is covered in the Thinkific review.
Questions from the back row
- How much does Podia cost in 2026?
- On the annual view of its pricing page on 21 September 2026: Mover $42 a month, billed $504 a year; Shaker $84 a month, $1,008 a year; Earthquaker $150 a month, $1,800 a year. Billed monthly each is higher — the page defaults to annual, so check the toggle before you commit.
- Does Podia charge transaction fees?
- Mover charges 5% of each sale. Shaker and Earthquaker charge nothing. Separately, Stripe or PayPal charge roughly 2.9% plus 30 cents on every plan, which Podia states clearly on its own pricing page.
- When is Podia Shaker cheaper than Mover?
- Above about $840 a month in sales. Shaker costs $42 a month more on annual billing and removes a 5% fee, so $42 divided by 0.05 gives the crossover. Below that figure Mover plus the fee costs less.
- How many email subscribers does Podia include?
- 100 on Mover, 500 on Shaker and 1,000 on Earthquaker. Beyond the included allowance, email is charged separately on a scale that rises with list size. This is the cost most Podia comparisons leave out and it often exceeds the transaction fee.
