How CoursePlot makes money, which links earn it, and the rules that stop that arrangement touching a grade.
The disclosure
Certain outbound links here are commercial. Follow one, start a paid plan, and the platform may pay this desk a referral fee. Your price does not move because of it — you get exactly the offer you would have got by typing the platform's address into the bar yourself.
Outbound partner links are marked as sponsored in the page markup and routed through our own /go/ addresses.
What commission is not allowed to do
Three rules, applied to every page:
- It cannot set the order. The shortlist is ranked on total cost and capability at defined revenue levels, worked in public so the arithmetic can be checked. A platform paying more does not move up, and the cheapest genuinely-good option on this site is often the one that pays us least.
- It cannot remove a deduction. Every graded review lists what the platform does badly. Nothing in that column has ever been softened or deleted at a vendor's request, and any such request is declined in writing.
- It cannot buy a review. We decide what gets covered. No platform has been offered coverage in exchange for a commission rate, and no draft is shared with a vendor before publication.
Where we earn nothing
Plenty of what this site recommends pays us nothing at all.
Running a course on your own WordPress site with Sensei Pro — a flat annual licence, no cut of your sales — earns us a fraction of what a subscription platform pays; telling you to stay on a platform's cheapest tier rather than the one it upsells earns us less than the alternative; and advising someone that their audience is too small to justify any subscription at all earns us nothing whatsoever. We publish all three anyway, because a site that only ever says "buy the expensive one" is worth nothing to read.
